Welcome to the New York City School Library System's

Reading Toolkit!

School libraries help build a culture of literacy in our schools and positively impact the level of student engagement in independent reading. The New York City School Library System's Library Advisory Committee created templates for school librarians to download and use in their library programs in order to strengthen this culture and its effect on the literacy lives of our students.

The booklist that Kathleen Baxter provided at her Jan 28, 2010 session, Connecting Boys with Books at Scholastic Headquarters is now available on this wiki. Click here to go to the page with the handout and some session photos.

Each page listed in the lefthand column contains links to activities for the topic. For example, if you click on Book Clubs you will find a template for creating and conducting a Parent Child Book Club. If you would like use our template to create your own activity click .

We hope you find these helpful.
